Course Outline
Course Outline
Business is constantly evolving. Successful organisations need people who understand customers, finance, people, operations, markets, legislation and the wider economic environment – and who can bring those areas together to make effective decisions.
This diploma gives you a broad introduction to the world of business and management, making it an ideal foundation for students considering a range of business-related degrees and careers.
You will explore how organisations are created and developed through Planning a Successful Business and Business Planning, giving you insight into the decisions involved in turning ideas into viable organisations.
Through Operations Management, you will consider how businesses organise their activities and resources, while Team Work and Motivation in Organisations explores one of the most important parts of any successful organisation – its people.
You will also develop your understanding of the financial and economic world in which businesses operate. Financial Management introduces important financial considerations, while The Economic Environment and Market Structures help you understand how economic conditions, competition and different types of markets can affect organisations.
Modern businesses rarely operate in isolation. Business & the Environment allows you to consider the relationship between organisations and the wider environment in which they operate, while International Aspects of Business introduces the opportunities and challenges associated with operating across international markets.
Every organisation also operates within a legal framework. Business and Employment Law and Consumer Legislation introduce important areas of legislation affecting businesses, their employees and their customers.
Alongside this, Business Skills helps develop broader skills relevant to the workplace and business environment.
A major part of the diploma is the Research Topic, a six-credit unit that allows you to investigate a business-related subject in greater depth and develop the independent research skills that will be valuable at university.
You will also complete dedicated academic skills units covering Academic Writing Skills, Independent Research, Preparing a Written Assignment, Preparing to Study, and Progressing to Higher Education.
The diploma comprises 45 credits of Level 3 academic subject content and 15 credits of Level 3 study skills, totalling 60 credits and 600 notional learning hours.
