Level 3 International Diploma (Psychology)

Psychology asks some of the biggest questions about human beings: Why do we behave the way we do? How does the brain influence behaviour? Why do people respond differently to stress? What shapes a child's development? Why do people commit crime? And how do our experiences and circumstances affect our mental and physical wellbeing?

This diploma allows you to explore these questions through a broad introduction to different areas of psychology.

Begin with Introduction to Psychology, establishing a foundation for your studies before exploring more specialised psychological disciplines.

Through The Brain & Nervous System and Psychobiology of Stress, you will examine biological influences on behaviour and develop your understanding of connections between the body, brain and psychological experience.

You will explore human development through Theories of Child Development and Developmental Psychology, considering how people develop and change. The Psychology of Learning and Psychology of Education then allow you to investigate psychological perspectives on learning and their relevance to educational environments.

The course also takes you into two particularly fascinating areas of the subject. Abnormal Psychology introduces psychological perspectives relating to atypical behaviour and mental health, while Forensic Psychology explores psychology within the context of crime and the criminal justice system.

This is complemented by Understanding Crime & Deviance, allowing you to consider criminal and deviant behaviour from a wider perspective.

Psychologists do not simply develop theories – they investigate them. Psychological Methodology introduces the methods and approaches involved in psychological research, helping prepare you for the research-based nature of psychology at university.

Finally, Poverty & Health and Social Factors in Health and Social Care broaden your perspective by considering how social circumstances and inequality can influence health and human experience.

Alongside your specialist psychology subjects, you will develop the academic skills universities expect through dedicated units covering Independent Research, Academic Writing Skills, Preparing a Written Assignment, Preparing to Study, and Progressing to Higher Education.

The diploma comprises 45 credits of Level 3 academic subject content and 15 credits of Level 3 study skills, totalling 60 credits and 600 notional learning hours.

There are no formal entry requirements for students applying for the Cambridge Online Education International Diplomas. Tutors are nevertheless, required to ensure that learners admitted onto the Diploma possess the necessary skills and personal qualities to cope with the demands of the course. We do expect candidates normally operate to at least Level Two in English and Level One in Mathematics - if this is a concern, we offer additional tuition to ensure these levels are met and can be taken forwards into assignments and to university applications. We also expect applicants show appropriate levels of commitment and motivation to have every success on their diploma.

All International Diplomas require the achievement of 60 credits. In terms of the length of time required for a learner to complete their diploma, for all International Diplomas the notional learning hours are 600. Notional learning hours comprise all learning that may be relevant to the achievement of the learning outcomes including directed and private study, practical and project work, assignments and assessment time. Your tutor will provide you with formative feedback and all units are PASS/FAIL. Your PASS grades will be then evaluated by the Examination Board. Final awards will be released to students after the External Moderation Visit.

On successful completion of the course, you will receive an accredited International Diploma at level 3, awarded by the Aim Qualifications and Assessment Group.

Aim Qualifications and Assessment Group are a national Awarding Organisation. Cambridge Online Education is a fully accredited education provider for this qualification.

Psychology can lead into an exceptionally broad range of university degrees and careers because an understanding of people, behaviour, development and research is valuable across healthcare, education, business, criminal justice and social services.

The diploma itself does not qualify someone to practise as a psychologist. Professional psychology careers normally require further university study and, depending on the profession and country, postgraduate training and professional registration.
